63-year-old woman found burnt dead at home in Kerala’s Perumbavoor

A 63-year-old woman was found burnt to death in the compound of her house in Perumbavoor on Monday, police said. The deceased was identified as Nirmala Bhai, a resident of Poppani Road in Perumbavoor.

According to police, Nirmala was last seen by her family members when she went to bed on Sunday night. When she was found missing from her bedroom the following morning, relatives searched the premises and discovered her burnt body in the compound.

A bottle containing fuel was also recovered near the body, police said.

Perumbavoor police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. Officials said it was too early to determine whether the woman died by suicide, in an accident or was killed.

Preliminary inquiries have not indicated any signs of trespassing into the house, police said. The body has been sent for postmortem, after which it will be handed over to the family.
