Delhi govt to disburse Rs 2,500 monthly aid to women under Lakshmi Yojna from Sep 1

Around 2,500 women in Delhi received approval letters on Wednesday, August 26, under the Lakshmi Yojna scheme, clearing the way for them to begin receiving Rs 2,500 in monthly financial assistance starting September 1.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta distributed the letters at an event held at Talkatora Stadium, where she said women remained central to all schemes and programmes run by her government. She described them as akin to Goddess Lakshmi who strengthen both family and society. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and several Delhi cabinet ministers were also present at the event.
According to official figures, 9,13,495 beneficiaries have registered under the scheme so far, of whom 6,52,223 have completed and submitted their applications. Eligible beneficiaries will begin receiving Rs 2,500 transferred directly into their bank accounts every month from September 1, with the government describing the assistance as a measure to support women's everyday needs and strengthen their financial security.
The government has also worked out how the money can be disbursed and used. Beneficiaries will have the option to receive Rs 1,000 through central bank digital currency while investing the remaining Rs 1,500 in a fixed or recurring deposit, or alternatively, they can choose to place the entire Rs 2,500 into a deposit account. Additionally, according to the Chief Minister's Office, a correction facility will soon be made available on the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana portal, allowing applicants to fix errors or complete any missing information in their applications.
The scheme is designed to provide monthly financial assistance to eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60. However, certain categories are excluded from the scheme, including women from households with more than three children and those whose annual household electricity consumption exceeds 2,400 units.
