2 US soldiers killed, 1 missing after Iranian missile and drone attack on military base in Jordan

Two United States service members were killed and another remains missing after an Iranian missile and drone attack targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, marking one of the deadliest attacks on American forces in the region in recent months. 

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the attack took place while American troops were defending the military installation against incoming ballistic missiles and drones launched by Iran. Several other personnel were also injured, with some requiring medical evacuation before being discharged. 

The identities of the deceased service members have not yet been released, pending notification of their families. The missing soldier is currently the focus of an ongoing search operation. 

The latest strike underscores the growing volatility in the Middle East as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate. It is the first fatal attack on US troops in the renewed phase of the conflict and raises the overall American military death toll in the war to 16. 

Following the attack, the US military launched retaliatory strikes on Iranian military targets. Washington has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its personnel and maintaining military operations in the region amid heightened security concerns.
