2 sisters among 3 killed in road accident in Rajasthan's Churu

Three persons, including two sisters, were killed and 15 injured after a speeding trailer truck collided with a mini-bus in Rajasthan's Churu district on Monday afternoon, police said.

The accident occurred on National Highway-58 under the Sujangarh Sadar police station limits when the trailer truck rammed into the oncoming Traveller, they said.

According to the police, around 20 people, including four children, were travelling in the vehicle. All occupants were residents of Kolkata in West Bengal and were on a religious trip towards Pushkar.

The deceased have been identified as Sushila Sahu (70), wife of Gangaprasad Sahu; Urmila Sahu (65), wife of Chhotelal Sahu; and Anandi Kahar (16), daughter of Utpal Kahar. Sushila and Urmila were sisters, while Anandi was related to them.

The police said the trailer was on its way from Jaswantgarh to Salasar, while Traveller was going from Salasar to Pushkar.

"Preliminary investigation suggests that the trailer driver attempted to overtake a truck ahead near the culvert, lost control and collided with the Traveller coming from the opposite direction," Sujangarh Sadar SHO Mukut Bihari Meena said.

Following the impact, Traveller overturned near the culvert, while the trailer truck broke through the roadside railing and was left hanging. The trailer truck driver fled the spot after the accident, the police said.

The injured were rushed to the sub-district hospital in Sujangarh with the help of locals and the police.

Three critically injured persons -- ”Anu (60), Radha (60) and Pratibha (35) -- ”have been referred to Sikar for advanced treatment.
