Massive landslide partially blocks two rivers in Sikkim's Mangan

A massive landslide struck Sikkim's Mangan district in the early hours of Sunday, partially obstructing the flow of two rivers, officials said.
A large section of the hillside along a new road cutting on the Naga-Tosa Road in the Naga Forest area collapsed near the confluence of the Teesta and Chyakoong rivers in the Chungthang subdivision. The site is located opposite the Theng Tunnel.
The landslide partially blocked the flow of both the Teesta and Chyakoong rivers, officials said.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Authorities are assessing the extent of damage to property, if any.
Officials said water levels at the Sankalang and Phidang outposts are currently normal, although the river water remains muddy.
The local administration has been instructed to continuously monitor the water levels and immediately report any significant changes, officials said. (with inputs from PTI)
