Shah sets 2029 drug-free goal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday declared that India will uproot the drug trade by 31 December 2029, framing narcotics as the most serious threat facing the country and the world. Speaking at the 3rd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force heads in New Delhi, Shah said the time had come to deliver a decisive blow through collective effort.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, he noted, the Government has taken one determined step after another over the past five years toward the difficult goal of a drug-free India. That campaign must now intensify. Shah pointed to recent successes against other long-standing challenges: terrorism in Kashmir, insurgency in the Northeast, and Naxalism.
