Russian strikes hit businesses, warehouses across Ukraine, injuring seven
Russia launched strikes overnight on businesses and storage facilities across Ukraine, injuring seven people, local authorities said Wednesday, September 23.
Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces carried out "group strikes" using drones on Ukraine's military-industrial and energy sector facilities, logistics centres and maritime vessels overnight. In Kyiv and its surrounding region, the ministry said a storage facility and an industrial facility used for storing and making drones were among the targets hit.
The Kyiv City Military Administration said three people were injured in the capital. A warehouse in the Holosiivskyi district was damaged and caught fire, while a fuel station and an office building in the same district were also damaged. In the Solomianskyi district, drone debris fell in open areas between residential buildings and at another location. In the Darnytskyi district, debris landed in a non-residential zone and a gas station was damaged, the administration said.
In the Zhytomyr region west of Kyiv, two people were injured when a business was struck, Ukraine's Emergency Service said in a Telegram post. In Zaporizhzhia, in southeastern Ukraine, two men aged 37 and 39 were injured in a strike that sparked a large fire at a shopping centre, with flames spreading across roughly 6,000 square metres before being brought under control. Emergency crews said they had to periodically halt operations and take shelter due to the continuing threat of further attacks.
In the southern Odesa region, Russia also struck warehouse buildings, triggering a large fire that firefighters struggled to contain amid repeated air raid alerts, the building's structure, and the large quantity of goods stored inside. Russia's Defence Ministry said three logistics centres in Odesa used for storing military and dual-use goods were hit, along with another storage facility in the wider region used to store drone components. The ministry added that a bulk carrier "transporting military supplies to the port of Odesa" was also struck at sea.
