RPF busts laptop theft bid at New Delhi station
In a significant breakthrough in curbing the theft of passengers’ belongings, particularly laptop bags, at New Delhi Railway Station and onboard trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Delhi Division, has apprehended a suspected laptop thief and recovered stolen property during a sustained CCTV-based surveillance operation.
Several complaints regarding theft of laptop bags from passengers travelling by train and from New Delhi Railway Station had been received through the Rail Madad/139 helpline. Taking the matter seriously, RPF, Delhi Division, constituted two dedicated teams to identify and apprehend the persons involved in such thefts. The teams undertook continuous and intensive CCTV surveillance and analysis of suspicious movements at New Delhi Railway Station. During the course of surveillance, one suspect was identified.
On Sunday, the RPF teams successfully apprehended the suspect red-handed with one laptop bag at the Foot Over Bridge (FOB), New Delhi Railway Station. The apprehended person has been identified as Shadab S/o Shamsad, aged about 25 years, R/o Village/PO/PS Mundali, District Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, along with the recovered property, was handed over to GRP, New Delhi Railway Station, for further legal action in connection with the e-FIR.
During questioning/disclosure, the accused reportedly revealed his involvement in 12-15 incidents of laptop theft and disclosed that he had sold the stolen laptops at Silver Impact Shop, Nirman Vihar. Acting promptly on this information, the GRP and RPF team conducted further proceedings and recovered 11 laptops from the said shop.
Pushpesh Raman Tripathi, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi, appreciated the dedicated efforts of the RPF personnel involved in the operation and emphasised that passenger safety and protection of passengers’ belongings remain a priority of RPF.
