Rebel TMC MLA sustains burn injuries

Bidi and tea tycoon and Democratic Trinamool Congress MLA from Sagardighi in Murshidabad, Bayron Biswas, has been hospitalised with severe burn injuries, sources in the rebel TMC group said, adding he suffered burns in a fire at his residence in Murshidabad’s Samserganj. The incident occurred on Saturday.

He was admitted to a nursing home with about 30 percent burn injuries, mostly to his legs and hands, sources said, adding his condition was stable.

A senior officer in Jangipur said that preliminary inquiry indicated that the fire originated from the AC in the MLA’s room. Other sources, however, said that he had attempted suicide.  “The cause of the fire is being ascertained,” he said. The family runs bidi factories, tea plantations, schools, and hospitals, etc.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and former Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury also expressed concern over the incident and prayed for his early recovery.
