Rahul slams DU over its 'stay away from Jantar Mantar' warning to students

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday criticised Delhi University for advising students to "stay away" from protests at Jantar Mantar, asking how the varsity could "threaten" students for exercising their democratic rights.

"How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes," Gandhi said in a social media post, tagging a Delhi University advisory urging students to stay away from Jantar Mantar.

The university, in a post on Thursday night, said any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, which are regulated under Supreme Court directives, may invite legal action.

"Such activities can also pose serious risks to students' personal safety and significantly impact their academic progress and professional opportunities," the university said.

It urged students to stay away from Jantar Mantar, prioritise their safety and comply with the law. The university also cautioned students against "fake and misleading content" being circulated to fuel the situation.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been protesting in central Delhi since June 20, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak.
