Amrit Dalam, facing 21 cases, extradited from Moldova to Punjab Police

Punjab Police has brought back alleged gangster Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam from Moldova, nearly two years after he fled India using a forged passport, the police said.

Dalam, who is allegedly linked to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, was taken into custody by a four-member Punjab Police team on September 11 and brought to India. He was detained in Moldova following a six-month operation by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the Organised Crime Control and Forensic Team (OFTEC), officials said.

Police had earlier issued an Interpol Red Notice against him. He was detained at the Moldova border in March while allegedly attempting to move towards Ukraine.

According to Punjab Police, Dalam faces 21 criminal cases involving charges under the murder, Arms Act, NDPS and UAPA provisions, besides extortion.

Police said he had fled India in October 2024 using a forged passport. He is a native of Dalam Nangal village in Batala and has been accused in cases involving drug smuggling, murder, attempted murder and extortion, according to earlier reports.

The accused was brought to India through Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Further investigation is expected to focus on his alleged links with organised crime networks in Punjab.
