Pro-Mamata TMC slams NCPI MPs as they meet Modi

The pro-Mamata Banerjee faction of the Trinamnool Congress hit out at the Nationalist Citizens Party of India MPs who on Friday joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in a breakfast meeting and discussed outstanding issues concerning Bengal and eastern India, once again calling them “weather birds” who had no sense of gratitude for the person or the party that made them members of parliament.

Twenty TMC MPs had left the party and joined the new NCPI days after the Bengal outfit lost Assembly elections on June 4, letting the BJP to come to power in the State.

“They are today meeting the Prime Minister and lavishly showering praises on him… there is no problem with that but they should not have done things the way they did this is nothing but a weather bird… they should have some amount of gratitude for the TMC and Mamata Banerjee but for whose name they would not have won the 2024 elections in the first place,” pro-Mamata TMC MP Sougato Roy said.

He was referring to the gratitude expressed by the NCPI MP Kakoli Ghoshdastidar who showered lavish praises on the Prime Minister. Earlier, Ghoshdastidar said how the NCPI MPs were “overwhelmed by his gesture” towards them and expressed confidence that in his leadership they will “definitely be able to develop eastern India” the way they wanted to.

Ghoshdastidar said, “we were overwhelmed by his gesture… that he thinks so deeply about the issues of eastern India… he told us that we were more prosperous during when Kolkata was the Capital of India… he told us how eastern India still remains the main producer of agricultural products and mineral and how notwithstanding that the region continued to lag behind… this has to be changed and he promised us all help to change this.”

Another senior MP Sudip Bandopadhyay said, “Prime Minister wants to focus on the development of Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar and Guwahati so as to bring about an all-round development of the eastern region… for which he asked us to propose our views and plans and promised all help.”

Actor-turned-MP Shatabdi Roy too was all praise for the Prime Minister, saying, “he was so warm and he interacted with every one of us discussing the issues … he discussed how they were planning and working towards the development of their respective constituencies.”

In a new development, the three Muslim MPs from Murshidabad who had been avoiding the NDA meeting on Friday were present at the Prime Minister’s residence. “We had to be present in the meeting because we have to raise the issues of the minorities in the district of Murshidabad… we represent the voters that voted for us… and here we are meeting the Prime Minister who is the leader of the entire country… we have all the reasons to be present in the meeting,” said Abu Taher, the MP from Murshidabad.
