Two women allegedly killed by husbands in separate UP incidents

Two women were allegedly killed by their husbands in separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh, with one of the victims seven months pregnant, police said on Wednesday.

In Hardoi's Bilgram area, 24-year-old Kiran was allegedly beaten to death with a stick by her husband following an argument on Tuesday evening, police said.

The incident took place in Mayora village, where Kiran and her husband Vishal Pal lived with their one-year-old daughter. The couple had been married for around three years.

Pal's mother, Prema, who attempted to intervene, was also allegedly assaulted.

Neighbours alerted the police after hearing screams. Kiran was taken to a community health centre in Bilgram, where doctors declared her dead.

Police sent the body for post-mortem and detained Vishal.

Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Subodh Gautam said further legal action would be taken based on a complaint from the family and that the matter was under investigation.

In a separate incident in Agra, a 30-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband and his family over dowry in the Khandouli area, police said.

The incident took place in Pili Pokhar village on Tuesday. The victim, also identified as Kiran, had married Vivek in 2018 and the couple had two sons.

Her brother Lalit alleged that the family had spent around Rs 30 lakh on the marriage, but Vivek and his relatives subsequently demanded more dowry.

According to police, Kiran was allegedly assaulted with an iron rod before her throat was slit with a knife.

After the killing, her husband and his family allegedly fled the village with the couple's two sons.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar said Kiran's body was found in a bloodied condition with multiple injury marks.

Police said further investigation was underway.
