PM’s ‘naraz fufa’ jibe: Sule says right to speak must be matched by the ability to listen

Nagpur, Sep 6 (PTI) NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Sunday said that in a strong democracy, the right to speak must be matched by the ability to listen and "they can criticise us", reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s use of labels such as “naraz fufa” to slam naysayers.

She was speaking to reporters at Nagpur airport.

Addressing the centenary celebrations of the Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Sunday, PM Modi said that outside the campus, students will find two types of people – “those who positively transform the power of society into the power of the nation and the others who turn into angry uncles (naraz fufa) as soon as any work begins”.

Asked about the jibe, Sule said, “Just as we have the power to speak, we also have the power to listen. In a strong democracy, in which I believe, they have the right to criticise us.”

When asked whether a woman should come forward to lead the Opposition INDIA bloc, with leaders such as her, Mamata Banerjee or Priyanka Vadra, Sule said, “Who comes before or after, does it make a difference?

“We are all engaged in serving the country, and the current economic situation in the country is very worrying. Who leads us all is not important, but the state of the country is worrisome and needs attention.”
