Bihar: Students block tracks
Police used tear gas and lathi-charge to disperse a mob of students that disrupted railway operations near Patna late Saturday night, after allegations of inadequate train arrangements for a competitive examination. According to railway protection officials, more than 200 young men gathered at Pataliputra station around midnight, claiming they were appearing for Excise Department recruitment exams scheduled for Sunday and demanding additional train services. The group allegedly squatted on railway tracks, blocking movement of trains. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel rushed to the site and informed railway authorities, after which a special train was arranged around 2 am. However, the protesters refused to vacate the tracks and reportedly resorted to stone-pelting.
