Parliament adjourned amid uproar as opposition protests over NEET, Ram Mandir donation row
Proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned on the opening day of the Monsoon Session after Opposition members staged noisy protests demanding discussions on the alleged NEET paper leak, the Ram Mandir donation controversy, and ongoing demonstrations at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Sloganeering by MPs repeatedly disrupted business in both Houses, forcing the presiding officers to suspend proceedings.
The Opposition, including leaders from the Congress and other INDIA bloc parties, insisted that issues affecting students and allegations related to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust should be taken up for immediate debate. In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge also raised concerns over protests by students and sought a discussion on the NEET issue.
The government, meanwhile, urged members to allow Parliament to function smoothly so that its legislative agenda could proceed. However, continued protests led to repeated adjournments, signalling a stormy start to the session. The Monsoon Session is expected to witness further confrontations between the government and the Opposition over several contentious issues, including education, governance and proposed legislation.
