UP: More than 20 children injured in school bus-truck collision in Amethi
More than two dozen children were injured on Monday, August 31, after a school bus collided head-on with a container truck in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district, police said.
The accident took place around 11 am on Thauri road between Alinagar and Thauri, under the jurisdiction of the Bhale Sultan Shaheed Smarak police station, Additional Superintendent of Police Gyanendra Kumar Singh said.
The school bus, carrying students of RPS Academy School, collided with the oncoming container, injuring more than two dozen children, the ASP said.
Fifteen of the injured children were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jagdishpur for treatment. Two of them suffered fractures, while the condition of the remaining children was stated to be out of danger, Singh said.
The container became entangled with the bus following the collision, prompting authorities to bring in a crane to separate the two vehicles, he said.
Legal proceedings were being initiated in connection with the accident, the officer added.
The incident also raised questions about the school's functioning as Amethi District Magistrate Sanjay Chauhan had declared a holiday for all schools in the district on Monday in view of heavy rainfall.
