Opposition making mockery of democracy: Shivraj Chouhan
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday slammed the opposition, saying it did not let Parliament run and it was making a “mockery of democracy”.
Chouhan also attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The agriculture and farmers welfare minister was speaking during an event organised to launch the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)-based Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria were among those present on the occasion.
During his address, Chouhan said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Government is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that benefits reach the eligible beneficiaries.
He said that Parliament is for discussion and debate over issues of farmers and the poor.
Slamming the opposition, Chouhan said, “but they will not allow it to run. When we accepted their one demand, they put another one and then came up with another one. It pains me to say these people are making a mockery of democracy,” he said.
“Samvidhan ko kalankit karne ka paap kar rahe hai (They are committing the sin of disgracing the Constitution),” Chouhan further said.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament saw relentless protests by the opposition over the police action against students protesting against irregularities in exams and the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple.
Chouhan also slammed Leader of the Opposition Gandhi, who, while addressing the Rachnatmak Congress National Convention in Delhi, had scoffed at PM Modi’s handling of foreign policy, which he claimed is “all about hugging leaders”.
He also objected to the kind of language used by Gandhi.
Chouhan said the way Gandhi, while discussing foreign policy, hugged his party leader, and then “inappropriate” language was used by that party leader for the woman prime minister of an independent and sovereign nation, was “extremely unfortunate”.
This is an insult to mothers and sisters across the entire world, Chouhan said.
Earlier, upon his arrival here Thursday evening, Union minister Joshi also slammed Gandhi, claiming that the LoP in the Lok Sabha feels he’s “born to rule” and alleged that his “frustration” was clearly visible.
Replying to a question on Gandhi’s conduct, Joshi said, “The feelings of frustration and disappointment are clearly visible in Rahul Gandhi. He has become completely desperate.”
