Open jail inmate shot dead in Jaipur; police looking for 2 scooter-riders
A 45-year-old inmate of Sanganer open jail was allegedly shot dead by two men in Jaipur's Karni Vihar area on Wednesday evening, police said.
Gangasahay Kumawat, the victim, was serving a sentence in a murder case, they said.
According to police, Gangasahay was on his way to Dhabas to go to open jail from his house around 5 pm when two men came on a scooter and opened fire at him.
The assailants fired three rounds, one of which hit Gangasahay in the head. The two rode away after the shooting.
Jaipur West DCP Prashant Kiran said the incident took place in the Janki Vihar area of Dhabas. Police teams from Karni Vihar, Bhankrota and Chitrakoot police stations responded to a call from locals about the incident.
The police said Gangasahay had been convicted in the 2018 murder of Mahendra Gurjar, a history-sheeter from the Moti Doongri area, and was serving his sentence at Sanganer open jail.
The motive behind Wednesday's killing was not immediately known.
A manhunt has been launched to nab the shooters.
