Non-local labourer killed in a terrorist attack in Kulgam
A non-local labourer, hailing from Chhattisgarh, was killed while another sustained injuries after terrorists opened fire on them in the Kelam area of Kulgam district late Friday evening.
This is the second incident of targeted killing in a span of 10 days. On July 22, a Jammu and Kashmir policeman, deployed on Amarnath yatra duty, was killed in a surprise terrorist attack at Lal Chowk in Anantnag district.
A senior J&K police officer said terrorists fired upon two non-local labourers, working in a local brick kiln at Kelam, leaving both critically injured.
Bleeding profusely, the injured labourers were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where one of them succumbed to his injuries, while the other was undergoing treatment at the time of filing the report.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Kulgam that claimed the life of a labourer from Chhattisgarh and directed security forces to intensify anti-terror operations to eliminate those responsible.
Soon after the attack, security forces rushed to the area, cordoned off the locality and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. LG Sinha, in a post on X, wrote, I spoke with Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other top security officials following the attack.
“I strongly condemn this cowardly terrorist act. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists,” the Lieutenant Governor said. He said that J&K Police and security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Lieutenant Governor also stated that another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh had been shifted to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Expressing condolences, Sinha conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured labourer. “The J&K Administration and the entire nation stand firmly with the affected families during this difficult time”, he said.
