Noida International Airport begins passenger flight operations, IndiGo operates first commercial service

Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar officially commenced commercial passenger flight operations on June 15, marking a major milestone for India's aviation sector and providing the National Capital Region (NCR) with its second major airport hub after Delhi's IGI Airport.
India's largest airline, IndiGo, became the first carrier to launch scheduled services from the airport. The inaugural commercial flight arrived from Lucknow before operating the airport's first outbound service to Bengaluru, formally ushering in passenger operations at the long-awaited greenfield airport.
The launch is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity, reduce congestion at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, and support economic growth across western Uttar Pradesh and the Yamuna Expressway region. The airport has been envisioned as a major aviation and logistics hub for northern India.
IndiGo has announced a phased expansion from Noida International Airport, with plans to connect more than 16 domestic destinations, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Srinagar, Pantnagar, Lucknow and Navi Mumbai. Additional routes are expected to be added in the coming months.

The airport's operational launch follows the completion of regulatory approvals and security clearances. Other airlines, including Akasa Air and Air India Express, are also expected to begin services from the airport shortly, further strengthening connectivity from the new aviation gateway.
While commercial operations have begun, connectivity challenges remain, with authorities working to improve last-mile transportation links to the airport through buses and other public transport options.
