Bihar floods: BJP chief Nitin Nabin donates three months’ salary

BJP president Nitin Nabin on Friday donated ₹6.35 lakh, equivalent to three months of his salary as a Rajya Sabha MP, to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Relief Fund amid the severe flood situation in the state, according to a party statement.

Nabin said the Bihar government was working to provide immediate assistance to flood-hit families, with relief camps, community kitchens, medical facilities and fodder arrangements in affected areas. He also said the Centre and state government were committed to supporting those impacted by the floods.

According to the BJP, the state government has already provided more than ₹550 crore in financial assistance to affected families, with ₹7,000 being given to each eligible household. However, the latest state government figures show that ₹579.23 crore had been transferred through direct benefit transfer to 8.27 lakh flood-affected families across 15 districts as of September 15.

Nabin said the flood situation was being continuously monitored and that authorities were assessing crop damage to determine further assistance for farmers. NDRF and SDRF teams have also been deployed for rescue and relief operations.

The BJP president also referred to Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s visit to flood-hit areas. Chouhan toured affected districts with Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on September 16 to assess damage and review relief operations.

The floods have affected nearly 50 lakh people across 15 districts, according to state government figures. Around 55,000 hectares of land have also been inundated, causing crop damage.
