New community gym opens in Arunachal under Operation Sadbhavana

In a significant step towards strengthening nation-building efforts in remote border regions, the Indian Army has established a Community Fitness Centre & Gym at Gelemo village in Upper Subansiri District, Arunachal Pradesh, under Operation Sadbhavana (2025–26) as part of the Government of India’s Vibrant Village Programme.
The project has been undertaken under the aegis of the Subansiri Yodha Brigade, a formation of the Spear Corps, as part of the Indian Army’s continued outreach initiatives aimed at promoting development, empowering local youth and strengthening civil–military cooperation in border areas.
The newly established facility will provide villagers—particularly the youth—with access to modern fitness equipment and a dedicated space for physical training, recreation and community engagement.
The Community Fitness Centre is expected to play a vital role in fostering a culture of fitness, discipline and healthy living among the youth of Gelemo and nearby villages. By creating a positive and constructive environment for recreation and self-improvement, the initiative seeks to channel the energy of young people towards productive pursuits while nurturing qualities of confidence, resilience and self-reliance.
The inauguration witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local community, including village elders, women and children, reflecting the strong bond between the Indian Army and the people of the region.
Residents of Gelemo expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Army’s continued commitment to bringing meaningful development initiatives to remote border villages. The facility is expected to benefit a large number of youth and villagers across the surrounding areas.
Through Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life in remote regions by supporting initiatives in infrastructure development, sports promotion, education, healthcare and community welfare. These projects not only address local needs but also strengthen trust and partnership between the armed forces and border communities. The establishment of the Community Fitness Centre & Gym at Gelemo stands as another testament to the Indian Army’s “Nation First” ethos.
