NDRF evacuates 85 people from flood-hit areas in Surat

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) evacuated 85 people from flood-affected areas of Surat as relentless rainfall continued to inundate several parts of Gujarat, prompting large-scale rescue operations.
According to officials, the evacuation was carried out after heavy rain caused severe waterlogging in low-lying localities, leaving residents stranded. NDRF teams, assisted by local authorities, used rescue boats and emergency equipment to safely shift people to secure locations as floodwaters rose.
Visuals from the rescue operation showed NDRF personnel navigating through submerged streets and helping families, including elderly residents and children, reach safer areas. Authorities said rescue and relief operations are continuing in vulnerable pockets as the rain persists.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for several districts in Gujarat, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official advisories.
State authorities have deployed NDRF, SDRF and local emergency teams across affected districts to respond swiftly to any rain-related emergencies. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people living in flood-prone areas to remain alert until the weather improves.
