Medical interns sit-in protest over stipend hike enter day 3; Bhopal, Maharashtra

Medical interns from colleges across Madhya Pradesh continued their sit-in protest in Bhopal on Wednesday, September 9, demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from Rs 14,337 to Rs 30,000.

The interns, including junior doctors, began their protest outside the gate of the government-run Hamidia Hospital on Monday, September 7. The demonstration turned tense when police used water cannons to disperse the protesters. Some interns were allegedly injured during the action.

The protesting medical students are seeking a revision of the stipend, arguing that the existing amount is inadequate. Despite the police action earlier this week, the interns continued their agitation on Wednesday, maintaining their demand for the higher monthly payment.

The sit-in has brought attention to the stipend paid to medical interns in Madhya Pradesh, with protesters pressing the authorities to address their demand. The demonstration continued in Bhopal as the interns awaited a response from the state government.
