Marathwada receives 29 per cent of expected September rainfall

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Sep 14 (PTI) Although half of September has passed, Maharashtra's semi-arid Marathwada region has received merely 29.4 per cent of its average expected rainfall for the last monsoon month, further widening the overall rain shortfall.

Against 77.5 mm of expected rainfall in September, the region has received just 22.8 mm of showers (or 29.4 per cent) till date this month (September 14), said a state revenue department report on Monday.

Marathwada consists of eight districts -- Chharapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Dharashiv, Latur, Nanded and Hingoli.

The average expected rainfall in these eight districts for September is 77.5 mm. However, the region has received merely 22.8 mm of rain so far this month, said the report.

Since June 1, Marathwada has received 405.6 mm rainfall as against the average expected precipitation of 679.5 mm. This was just 59.7 per cent of the expected rainfall for the monsoon months (till mid-September), it said.

District-wise received rainfall percentage across Marathwada (till mid-September) in comparison to the expected rainfall (for the full month) was: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar -- 36.3 per cent (25.5mm/70.2 mm), Jalna - 33.1 per cent (21.9 mm/66.2 mm), Beed- 27.3 per cent (80.3 mm/21.9 mm), Latur - 16.9 per cent (14.3 mm/84.5 mm), Dharashiv - 7.9 per cent (6.8mm/86.2 mm), Nanded- 55.2 per cent (43.1mm/78.1 mm), Parbhani - 15.2 per cent (12.0mm/78.9 mm), Hingoli - 26.6 per cent (19.2mm/72.2 mm), the report added.
