Manali-Leh Highway reopens after flash flood; around 50 vehicles stranded in Himachal

According to police, the highway was reopened around midnight after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) carried out emergency restoration work to clear debris and repair the affected stretch. The prompt response allowed stranded vehicles to resume their journey on the strategically important route connecting Himachal Pradesh with Ladakh.
The flash flood, triggered by heavy rainfall, had damaged the road and temporarily halted traffic. Authorities advised travellers to exercise caution while driving through the region as intermittent rainfall and unstable weather conditions continue to pose risks.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall over parts of the Himalayan region, prompting authorities to closely monitor vulnerable stretches for landslides and flash floods. Travellers have been urged to check the latest road and weather updates before undertaking journeys in the area.
