Madras HC plea seeks CBI probe into closure of Veeramani POCSO case
CHENNAI: A petition has been moved before the Madras High Court seeking a CBI investigation into the Chennai police decision to close a POCSO case involving Gem Granites owner R Veeramani.
The petition was filed by video journalist and Whistle Blowers Activist Trust founder Varaaki. It alleges investigative lapses, undue influence and an illegal payment of Rs 40 crore to derail the investigation. These allegations have not been established by a court.
The case was registered in October 2025 after a complainant received a pen drive and a letter containing footage that allegedly showed the sexual abuse of a minor. Police named Veeramani and another person as accused but filed a further-action-dropped report in February 2026.
According to the reports, police said they could not identify or trace the girl, found no matching footage on a DVR examined after a six-year gap and lacked corroborating physical evidence. The petitioner alleged that investigators failed to exhaust forensic options, including facial-comparison and anthropological analysis.
LiveLaw reported that the High Court said on Friday it would hear a plea seeking a CBI probe into the case. Media reported that petitions had sought transfer of the investigation to the CBI or an independent special investigation team.
The matter is expected to be taken up for hearing shortly.
