Lok Sabha adjourned amid opposition uproar over Shah's statement
The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon on Wednesday after opposition members protested demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah on police action against student protesters.
The protests disrupted proceedings soon after the House met. Speaker Om Birla urged the protesting members to allow Question Hour to continue, but the opposition refused to relent, forcing him to adjourn the proceedings.
The Question Hour was also disrupted on Tuesday. However, the House later took up a debate on a bill seeking to amend the anti-paper leaks law, which proposes stricter punishment of up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to Rs 50 lakh.
The government had introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday, days after nationwide student protests over the NEET controversy led to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The opposition has repeatedly raised the NEET paper leak issue since the Monsoon session began on July 20. As a result, major legislative business has remained stalled, with only two bills introduced so far.
