Left unions, farmers’ bodies hold rallies demanding MSPs for farmers
Left trade unions and farmers’ organisations on Monday held civil disobedience rallies at several district headquarters across West Bengal, pressing for minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce and 200 days of work under the rural job guarantee scheme, among other demands.
Members of CITU, AITUC, AIKS and other Left-affiliated trade unions and farmers’ organisations took out rallies to district magistrates’ offices in Bankura, Bardhaman and other districts.
The protesters demanded implementation of MSP for various agricultural produce across the country.
They also sought the restoration of the MGNREGA in place of the G RAM G job guarantee scheme and demanded 200 days of work for every person annually.
The G RAM G scheme, which replaced the MGNREGA, provides for 125 days of employment to each person every year.
The trade unions and agricultural workers’ organisations also demanded a halt to evictions of hawkers and slum dwellers and sought a proper rehabilitation policy for those affected.
They further demanded repeal of the four labour codes that replaced 29 central labour laws.
