Man killed over land dispute, one arrested

Police have arrested one of six suspects in connection with the fatal beating of a man over a land dispute here, officials said on Friday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Brijnandan Rai said the incident occurred late Thursday night near Laxmanpur block in the Lilapur police station area.
Rai said police identified the deceased as Saurabh alias Monu Vishwakarma (32), a resident of Dandi village under Lilapur police station, who worked as a contractual employee in the supply department.
According to police, Saurabh was returning home late at night when some villagers allegedly attacked him with sticks and lathis following a land dispute. On receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and took the seriously injured man to the medical college for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries, the officer said.
Police sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
Rai said based on a complaint from the family, police registered a murder case against six people and arrested the main accused, villager Daroga Tiwari.
The officer said efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
