KPCC to march to Lok Bhavan on September 25 seeking removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will hold a protest march to the Lok Bhavan here on Friday, September 25, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The march, being organised as part of a nationwide protest called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), will begin at 4 pm, KPCC general secretary Neyyattinkara Sanal said in a statement on Thursday.
Chief Minister, KPCC president, ministers, MPs, MLAs, KPCC office-bearers and elected representatives of local bodies are expected to participate in the protest, he said.
Similar marches will be held at district headquarters across Kerala on Saturday, September 26, under the leadership of the respective District Congress Committees (DCCs), Sanal said.
Sanal alleged that Kumar had taken decisions that undermined the electoral process, which, he said, should be conducted in a fair and independent manner.
He further alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner had taken positions favourable to the ruling alliance while heading a constitutional institution.
Sanal also alleged that several decisions taken by Kumar had favoured the BJP and weakened the democratic process, including instances where dissenting views of other Election Commission members were allegedly overridden.
He appealed to “all believers in democracy” to participate in the nationwide protest called by the Congress and demanded that the Election Commission maintain independence and impartiality.
