Jannik Sinner ends 2026 season early due to knee injury

Top-ranked Jannik Sinner has announced that he will miss the rest of the year as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
Sinner has not played since July, when he defeated Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final. He later withdrew from the US Open due to an injury to his right knee.
Sinner said in a video message posted on Instagram on Tuesday that he and his doctors had decided that he needed treatment for his knee, bringing his 2026 season to an end.
"I also need to think about my long-term career so I will do everything possible to get back 100%," Sinner said.
The Italian is at risk of losing his No. 1 ranking during his absence.
According to a statement from Sinner's management team, he will undergo treatment for inflammation in his knee on the advice of his medical team.
"The decision has been made to have the treatment now to give Jannik the necessary time to recover before beginning preparations for 2027," the statement said. (with inputs from Associated Press)
