Jaipur: 3 women labourers die at construction site

A mound of sand collapsed into a nearly 20-foot-deep excavation pit at a construction site in Jaipur’s Vaishali Nagar area on Thursday, killing three women labourers from Bihar, police said.
According to preliminary information, labourers were levelling the soil at the bottom of the pit when a large mound of sand suddenly caved in, trapping three women workers underneath.
The incident took place in the Gandhi Nagar locality, where excavation work was underway at the construction site. Other labourers immediately launched rescue efforts and a JCB machine was pressed into service to clear the debris. After strenuous efforts, the women were pulled out from beneath the sand and rushed to SMS Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
The deceased were identified as Sunita Devi, Anuti Kumari and Pratima Kumari, all natives of Bihar, the police said, adding that the women had been working at the construction site for the past four months. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the collapse, officials added.
