India crosses 5,200 Ethanol fuel stations as flex-fuel vehicle adoption gains momentum

India has established around 5,200 ethanol fuel stations across the country as part of its push towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at an event promoting flex-fuel mobility, Puri said the expansion of ethanol infrastructure is a major step towards reducing dependence on imported crude oil, lowering carbon emissions and boosting farmers' incomes through increased demand for biofuel feedstock.

The minister highlighted that India has successfully achieved its 20 per cent ethanol blending target ahead of schedule, marking significant progress in the country's energy transition efforts. He also emphasized the government's commitment to accelerating the adoption of flex-fuel vehicles capable of running on higher ethanol blends.

The growing network of ethanol dispensing stations is expected to support the wider rollout of flex-fuel vehicles and strengthen India's roadmap towards energy security and green mobility.
