Fed up with potholes, Hyderabad man lies on road in protest
A man frustrated with pothole-ridden roads in Hyderabad lay down in the middle of the street at Gowliguda bus stand on Tuesday, September 1, forcing traffic to a halt and drawing a crowd.
The protester, Feroz, said the stretch had been in bad shape for days and was putting motorists and pedestrians at risk. A video of him lying on the road quickly did the rounds on social media.
Two policemen rushed to the spot and tried to talk him into moving, since the protest was holding up traffic in Hyderabad. They assured him the road would be fixed by the next morning. Feroz wasn't convinced — he said the problem had dragged on for too long to be solved overnight and needed real repair work, not another quick patch.
The protest lands amid a wave of complaints over potholes across southern Hyderabad after recent rains. Two-wheeler riders have borne the brunt of it, residents say.
Roads near Puranapul cremation ground, Jalpally and Khaja Mansion Junction in Masab Tank have seen similar complaints. Locals are questioning whether patchwork fixes from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation actually hold — potholes, they say, keep coming back the moment it rains again.
