B.Tech student dies by suicide 18 days after marriage, dowry harassment alleged

A 20-year-old B.Tech student died by suicide this week at her college in Ghatkesar, allegedly after facing dowry harassment just over two weeks into her marriage, police said on Friday, September 19.
The deceased, Pallavi, daughter of Yenugu Madhusudhan Reddy, a native of Katepally village in Motakonduru mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, was in her third year of B.Tech at Kommuri Prathap Reddy Institute of Technology (KPRIT). She had married Srikanth Reddy, a police constable posted at Chaitanyapuri Police Station, on August 30.
According to a complaint filed by her mother, Sandhya, Pallavi had been facing physical and mental harassment from her husband over demands for additional dowry. Police said she died by jumping from the college building, allegedly due to distress caused by the harassment.
She was first taken to Neelima Hospital in Jeedimetla before being shifted to Srikara Hospital in Medipally for further treatment, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Ghatkesar police have registered a case based on the complaint, and further investigation is underway.
