Himachal Police tells to avoid parking near weak trees during rain after Shimla roadside incident

Himachal Pradesh Police have issued an advisory urging motorists to avoid parking vehicles near dry, weak or roadside trees during rain and strong winds, following an incident in Shimla where a dried tree fell on parked vehicles causing damage.
The police cautioned that during adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain and gusty winds, weakened trees become highly unstable and can pose serious risks to life and property. Officials said such incidents are increasingly being reported in hill regions during the monsoon season.
Authorities have advised residents and tourists to park vehicles only in designated and safe parking areas, especially during alerts issued by the weather department. The advisory also emphasised that parking near slopes, old trees, and unstable roadside vegetation should be strictly avoided.
The warning comes amid recurring weather-related disruptions in Himachal Pradesh, where heavy rainfall and strong winds often lead to landslides, falling trees, and road blockages. Emergency teams are regularly deployed to clear debris and restore connectivity in affected areas.
Officials further stated that preventive precautions by the public can significantly reduce accident risks during extreme weather conditions. The police have also urged people to remain alert, follow weather updates, and cooperate with local administration during such situations.
Himachal Pradesh, particularly Shimla and adjoining hill districts, frequently witnesses tree falls during the monsoon due to soil loosening and high wind pressure, making roadside parking a potential hazard.
