13-year-old girl dies 10 days after alleged beating by teacher in UP

A 13-year-old girl died at a private hospital in Farrukhabad, 10 days after she was allegedly beaten by a teacher at her school in Hardoi district, police said on Tuesday.
The girl, identified as Kshama, was a Class 8 student at Composite School in Sahuwapur village under the Bharkhani development block.
According to police, Kshama had gone to school on August 20 to appear for an examination. She later got into an argument with a classmate and complained about the incident to a teacher.
The teacher allegedly beat Kshama instead of addressing her complaint, leaving her injured, police said.
Kshama was subsequently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Farrukhabad. She died on Sunday evening, Additional Superintendent of Police (Hardoi) Subodh Gautam said.
"An FIR has been registered on the complaint of Kshama's father against the headmaster, class teacher and the teenage girl under sections relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder," Gautam said.
The police had earlier booked school headmaster Akshay Singh Yadav, class teacher Rajendra Gangwar and the classmate named in the complaint.
The Basic Education Department has also taken action against the two school officials.
Basic Education Officer Prabhat Mishra said the department had received a video purportedly showing the teacher beating Kshama.
"It was found that the teacher had beaten the student on August 20. The headmaster and class teacher have both been suspended, and departmental action is underway," Mishra said.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the student's death and the allegations made by her family.
