Home Guard accused of assaulting woman in Hafizpet arrested, removed from rolls

A 36-year-old Home Guard, accused of assaulting a woman and dragging her by her hair near a railway station here, has been removed from the rolls and arrested, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh said on Saturday.

The Home Guard was being produced before a court for judicial remand, the commissioner said, in connection with the assault on the woman.

A video of the incident, circulated on social media, showed the Home Guard allegedly hitting the woman with his hands before dragging her by her hair.

The Home Guard, who was deputed for duty at Hafizpet Railway Station, was allegedly abused by the woman, a ragpicker, during an altercation, a police official said, citing a preliminary investigation.

A case was registered against him at Miyapur Police Station under Sections 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said.

The South Central Railway, in a post on X, said the incident had been enquired into and the personnel concerned was identified as a Home Guard of the Telangana State Police who had been deputed for duty at Hafizpet Railway Station. He was repatriated to the Telangana State Police department for necessary disciplinary action, it said.

Cyberabad Police, in a post on X, said it takes such incidents seriously and reiterated that professional conduct, discipline, dignity and respect for every citizen are fundamental to policing.
