Gujarat Local Body Election Results 2026: BJP Sweeps All 15 Municipal Corporations

The Bharatiya Janata Party has registered a sweeping victory in the Gujarat local body elections 2026, winning all 15 municipal corporations across the state, according to latest trends and declared results.
Counting of votes began Tuesday morning after polling was held on Sunday for 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats.
The BJP dominated urban bodies, crossing the 50% mark in each municipal corporation, including key cities like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara.
In early trends, the BJP surged ahead with an overwhelming margin—winning 467 out of 493 declared seats in municipal corporations—leaving the Indian National Congress and Aam Aadmi Party trailing significantly.
The party also extended its dominance in rural bodies. In district panchayats, BJP secured 568 out of 1,090 seats, while Congress managed 77 seats. In taluka panchayats, BJP won 2,397 seats out of 5,234, maintaining a strong lead over rivals.
However, the Congress managed to notch up a few notable wins, including a victory in Dabhoi municipality—considered a BJP stronghold—and a narrow win in Palej by just one vote. The party also secured a seat in Surat Municipal Corporation, marking a modest comeback in select pockets.
The AAP, meanwhile, registered limited success, winning a handful of seats, including a taluka panchayat seat in Keshod after a tie-breaking draw.
In Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the BJP led comfortably, winning or leading in over 90 seats out of 192. Counting centres, including Gujarat College and LD Engineering College, witnessed tight security, with reports of minor clashes during the process.
The elections also saw participation from new faces, including a singer and a social media personality who secured wins in local bodies.
Overall, the results underline the BJP’s continued electoral dominance in Gujarat across both urban and rural regions, despite isolated setbacks in select constituencies.
