Gujarat first to launch NEP-aligned digital progress card

Gujarat has become the first State in India to introduce a digital Holistic Progress Card (HPC) aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in collaboration with NCERT’s PARAKH initiative.

Unlike the conventional marks-based report card, the new digital system will evaluate students through a comprehensive 360-degree framework covering academic performance, creativity, leadership, life skills, sports, arts and social-emotional development.

The assessment model combines self-evaluation, peer review, parent feedback and teacher assessment, providing a broader picture of a student’s overall development and learning needs.

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has developed the online platform in association with NCERT-PARAKH and the Samagra Shiksha programme, enabling schools to maintain digital student records.

Beginning in the 2026-27 academic year, the initiative will be introduced on a pilot basis in 10 per cent of Government, grant-in-aid and private secondary and higher secondary schools in every district before being expanded across the State in phases.

Training workshops for principals, district education officials and nodal officers were recently conducted in Surat, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Rajkot to facilitate implementation of the new assessment framework.
