Smearing your car with 3,400 lipstick kiss marks by your girlfriend can land the vehicle owner in trouble. He had to shell out a Rs 5,500 challan, remove the marks and wash it to restore the exterior.
The incident in Gwalior came to light after a video went viral, raising curiosity. The police tracked down the car through its registration number and imposed the fine for violating traffic rules under the Motor Vehicles Act. The car, owned by Aditya Sikarwar, became the centre of attention after its entire exterior was covered with lipstick marks resembling kisses.
Photos of the vehicle quickly made their way across social media, prompting curiosity over the story behind its striking appearance. It was learnt, his girlfriend was inspired by a foreign social media trend and decided to recreate it on the car. The thousands of lipstick prints were made one by one and took around four hours to complete. The result was hard to miss. With kiss marks covering much of its exterior, the car stood out wherever it went, naturally drawing the attention of people on the road.
The car was driven around Gwalior’s City Centre for two days before the video went viral. Traffic police traced the vehicle and imposed the fine on its owner under the Motor Vehicles Act, besides directing him to remove the lipstick marks. Following the action, Aditya Sikarwar accepted his mistake. The lipstick marks were then removed from the car, with the vehicle being washed to restore its exterior.
The Gwalior man’s unusual car makeover highlighted a lesser-known aspect of motor vehicle law -- vehicle owners cannot make modifications or alterations that violate prescribed rules.
The incident raises a relevant question for Delhi motorists: what modifications or practices can land a vehicle owner in trouble in the national capital?
A senior Delhi Traffic Police officer said a vehicle owner cannot freely alter a vehicle after purchasing it from a manufacturer.
“When someone buys a vehicle from a showroom, it complies with the prescribed traffic and motor vehicle guidelines. For any further changes, one has to take permission, which will be examined by the competent authority.
