Four hardcore ULFA(I) cadres lay down arms in Arunachal
In a major blow to the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), four hardcore cadres of the insurgent outfit surrendered before the security forces along the Chupkhao Track in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.
The successful operation was executed by the Assam Rifles following sustained intelligence gathering, continuous surveillance, and persistent counter-insurgency engagement in the region.
According to defence officials, the persuaded insurgents chose to lay down their arms and rejoin the mainstream as part of the security forces’ ongoing outreach initiatives aimed at encouraging misguided youth to abandon violence.
During the surrender, the cadres handed over a cache of four weapons along with a substantial quantity of ammunition and war-like stores.
Defence sources described the recovery and surrender as a severe setback to the operational capabilities and influence of ULFA(I) in the Southern Arunachal Pradesh belt.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence highlighted that the development reflects the growing effectiveness of joint operational measures and community outreach. The security forces reiterated their steadfast commitment to maintaining lasting peace, stability, and security across the North Eastern Region, emphasizing that peace and development offer a secure future for former insurgents.
