Food Ministry signs MoU with FCI to improve operational efficiency
The Food Ministry has signed an agreement with state-owned FCI to set targets for this fiscal year, including modernising foodgrain management and improving operational efficiency.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) is the nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains. According to an official statement on Tuesday, the Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) and the FCI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for this fiscal.
“The MoU establishes a comprehensive performance framework for FCI, with defined targets aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening accountability and accelerating modernisation in foodgrain management,” the food ministry said.
The MoU focuses on various key areas, including reduction of storage losses, optimal utilisation of storage capacity, improvement in logistics and supply chain management, and strengthening of quality control mechanisms.
According to the MoU, the FCI will also emphasise greater digitisation of business processes and adoption of modern information technology solutions to enhance efficiency.
As part of the modernisation agenda, the MoU provides for capacity building and skill development initiatives for FCI employees.
The pact introduces a measurable, outcome-oriented approach to FCI’s functioning by linking its performance with clearly defined annual parameters, the statement said.
