FIR against TV actor Aditi Sharma's husband, in-laws over alleged harassment
Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against television actor Aditi Sharma's husband and two of his family members following her complaint alleging physical and mental harassment, domestic violence and misuse of her jewellery. PTI reported.
The Goregaon police registered the case on July 30 against Sharma's husband, Abhineet Vidyanand Kaushik, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a police official said.
Sharma, who has acted in television serials including "Rabb Se Hai Dua" and "Apollena – Sapno Ki Unchi Udann", alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental harassment, assault, verbal abuse and repeated questioning of her character.
According to her complaint, Sharma met Kaushik during an online acting class in June 2021 and the two later entered into a relationship. They began living together in Mumbai's Goregaon area in September 2024 and married two months later with the consent of both families, she said.
Sharma alleged that her husband's behaviour changed within days of their marriage, leading to frequent arguments over her dressing and other issues. She also alleged that he regularly took money from her instead of contributing towards household expenses.
Following an argument, her husband allegedly became suspicious of her character, accused her of infidelity, repeatedly checked her mobile phone and prevented her from speaking to her parents, according to the complaint.
The actor further alleged that her mother-in-law withheld her bridal jewellery, including her mangalsutra, and did not return the valuables despite repeated requests.
She also alleged that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law sided with her husband during attempts to resolve the disputes and continued to harass her.
The FIR was registered under BNS sections 85, relating to cruelty by a husband or his relatives; 316(2), relating to criminal breach of trust; 352, relating to intentional insult; and 3(5), relating to common intention. The investigation is underway, the police official said.
