Falta repoll results: BJP’s Debangshu Panda takes strong lead in high-stakes bengal contest

Counting of votes for the Falta Assembly repoll in West Bengal is underway under strict security arrangements, with BJP candidate Debangshu Panda emerging as the clear frontrunner in early trends.
The seat has become one of the most closely watched constituencies in the state due to the controversy surrounding the earlier election process.
The Election Commission had ordered a complete repoll across all 285 booths in the constituency after serious allegations of irregularities, including claims of EVM tampering and violations during the previous voting process.
Fresh polling was conducted on May 21 with heightened security measures and a large deployment of central forces to ensure transparency and smooth voting.
Voter participation remained high, with more than 86% turnout reported during the repoll.
According to early counting trends, Debangshu Panda of the BJP established a significant lead over rival candidates.
CPI(M) candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi remained in second place, while Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla trailed behind. Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan, who had earlier announced his withdrawal from the race, continued to remain on the ballot because the withdrawal happened after the official nomination process.
The final result is expected later in the day as counting progresses.
