Fake blood pressure medicines seized in Gurugram; Haryana FDA traces supply to Roorkee
The Haryana Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized counterfeit blood pressure medicines in Gurugram and arrested two people in connection with an alleged interstate fake drug racket. Officials said the spurious Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg tablets, commonly prescribed to treat hypertension, were manufactured at an unlicensed facility in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, before being supplied through a wholesale distributor in Delhi's Okhla to medical stores in Gurugram.
The crackdown began after the FDA received a tip-off about suspected fake medicines being sold in the city. During the investigation, authorities recovered 178 strips of counterfeit tablets and found that nearly 1,700 strips had reportedly entered the supply chain.
Officials believe the network extends across multiple states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and are working to identify others involved in the manufacturing and distribution of the fake medicines.
The seized medicines have been sent for laboratory testing, while further raids are underway to trace the remaining stock and dismantle the wider network. Health officials have urged consumers to purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies and to report any suspected counterfeit drugs immediately.
