ED raids 7 premises linked to TMC MLA Madan Mitra in West Bengal Municipality recruitment scam probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday carried out raids at seven premises linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA and former West Bengal minister Madan Mitra in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged municipality recruitment scam.
According to officials, the search operations were conducted across multiple locations in Kolkata and surrounding areas, including residential and apartment properties associated with Mitra. The action is part of a money laundering probe into alleged irregularities in municipal recruitments across West Bengal.
Investigators suspect that jobs in various municipalities were secured through illegal payments, with allegations that ineligible candidates were appointed in exchange for bribes routed through intermediaries. The ED is also examining the role of a wider network of middlemen involved in facilitating the alleged scam.
Preliminary findings reportedly suggest that Madan Mitra may have received illicit gratification in the form of cash and gold linked to recruitment-related transactions. The agency is also probing over 125 municipal recruitments allegedly connected to the case.

Officials said the raids aim to recover documents, digital records, and financial evidence to trace the flow of funds and identify other individuals involved in the suspected racket.
The municipality recruitment scam is part of a broader series of corruption investigations in West Bengal involving alleged irregularities in government job allocations.
