Delhi Transco appeals to people not to fly kites near high tension lines

With kite flying expected to increase during the monsoon season and around Independence Day, Delhi Transco appeals to the public to fly kites in open spaces such as parks and playgrounds and should not use metal-coated manjha for their safety and smooth transmission of power because their minor carelessness can lead to major power failure, blackout, electrocution or even death.

The extra high voltage transmission lines are the corridor to transmit bulk power feeding the larger areas. Whenever there is a tripping due to entangling of kites, it takes considerable time to locate and remove the kite from the line; therefore, it may result in an outage for a long time. During the last few years, many trippings running in the few hundreds have occurred in the Delhi Power System, which includes both transmission and distribution, due to kite flying on 15th August.
